It’s National Veterinary Technician Week

Vetinary Staff With Dog And Cat In SurgeryAlthough many people may not be aware of it, October 13-19 is National Veterinary Technician week. People aren’t hesitant to take off a week for the winter holidays and other celebrations, but just what exactly does National Veterinary Technician week entail?

Although the specific date changes year to year, National Veterinary Technician week occurs in the third month of October, and veterinarian technicians are thanked and celebrated for all of their dedication and hard work in their field. There are even national contests vet technicians can enter to win prizes!

The first National Veterinary Technician week took place back in the year of 1993. Each year since then, the tradition has continued. This means that this year, in 2013, the 20th anniversary of National Veterinary Technician week will take place! The theme for this year’s event is “Your Trusted Partner in Lifelong Care.” The theme fits the job title of a veterinarian technician. They are an essential part of what keeps veterinary medicine going smoothly and are vital to the well being of thousands of pets nationwide.

During this week, many animal hospitals and clinics across the nation are strongly motivated to help educate the public. The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America develops all the educational and eye-catching posters that these clinics and animal hospital choose to put up for the public to stumble across. This year, Hill’s Pet Nutrition, NAVTA, the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians, and Partners For Healthy Pets are sponsoring National Veterinary Technician week.

When it comes to people keeping their pets healthy, they want nothing but the best, most efficient, and most up-to-date technology and medicine available for their pets. If veterinary technicians did not exist, the technology and medicine that many pets have come to rely on may or may not be available. Technicians are so much more than assistants. They worked hard in college to earn their degree, and it’s important that the public recognizes all of their hard work and is able to take a moment out of their day to thank these technicians; even if that means only thanking them during national veterinarian technician week, which can sometimes mean the world to these very special technicians.
